Welcome!

The Association of Christian Entertainment Presents:

The summer CGDC is slated for July 15-17, 2010, at Concordia University in Portland. Just awaiting final confirmation from Concordia.

The CGDC Winter Retreat has been cancelled. There will be a one day get-together on Feb. 27th!

We have secured a location for a 1 day event! We will be meeting at GEORGE FOX UNIVERSITY in Newberg, Oregon, on Saturday February 27th (that's THIS SATURDAY!) starting as early as 10 am and going until 7 pm. You may arrive at any time, and stay as long as you want.

This is a Pot-Luck lunch. If you would like to join us for lunch (12:00-1:00 PM) please bring an entree and a beverage, enough for yourself (and any guests you are bringing with you) as well as 6 other people. (There is a Little Ceasar's Pizza, as well as other restaurant and grocery store choices in the area if so desired.) This should provide sufficient food for everyone, and there will be at least one item on the menu that you like! :)

If the Lord has impressed something on your heart to share, please bring it with you. There is a built-in projector in the room as well as wireless internet. We will formulate a presentation schedule on the fly based on the people who are attending. We do want to hear what the Lord has to share through you however; so please come prepared to speak if that is what the Lord wants you to do!

Otherwise, there will be plenty of time for networking, prayer, and fellowship. We will talk about game development, marketing, business strategies, quality game design, as well as the unique experiences we have as Christian game developers, struggles and triumphs, and the spiritual growth we experience along the way.

The event is free to attend. Donations to cover the site fee will be gratefully accepted.

Find us in the Hoover Building room 102, on the George Fox University campus. Enter from the Meridian street entrance.

10 am to 7 pm, February 27th.

God bless you!

See you Saturday!

-Laurene Wells

Our 8th annual Summer Conference was a success. It occured July 30-Aug 1 at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. The weather cooperated as Wednesday was over 100 degrees but it was pleasant by Saturday. Many Americans came and we hosted several Canadians (and even a German visitor by way of Canada).

Some Highlights included:

  • Best iPhone Game was G from Soma Games
  • Best Card Game was Messiah from Heaven's Blessings Tiny Zoo
  • Best PC Game was Interactive Bible: James from GraceWorks Interactive
  • Persistent Developer! Katie Van Meter advanced last year's design doc contest into a full game! Wow!
  • Farthest travelled was Rebecca Long!

The Winter Retreat was awesome, thanks to organizer Laurene Wells of Heaven's Blessings Tiny Zoo! Some details and pictures are below. We also want to profusely thank two of our sponsors - Game Streamer and Intel Software Partner.

The first ever CGDC Winter Retreat, was held February 5-6-7 in the mountain lodge at 5 Rock Ranch in Yamhill, Oregon. The theme for the Winter Retreat was "ENCOURAGEMENT."

"... that retreat locale looks ideal! I can't wait for the CGDC, it will be a precious few days away from all the hustle and bustle!"
Dave Young, President of Dream Games

What is the CGDC?
The Christian Game Developers Conference is the only gathering with the purpose of encouraging game developers, in both software and traditional mediums, to apply Christian principles to their industry. Some developers are involved in creating games made specifically to glorify God. Others work for secular companies and are Godly influences at their place of employment. But wherever they are, they need encouragement to stand up for morality and truth in an industry that can often be fighting these ideals - and the CGDC is a great place to get that encouragement.

In addition to the inspirational messages, there are also talks and workshops on topics from game design to business marketing to QA processes. At no other conference in the world can you walk out from a message on integrating Christian concepts with games and into a workshop on particle physics, discuss optimizing a website for visibility on search engines, and then hear a debate on interactive storytelling that hinges on the issues of freewill vs. predestination, or find yourself philosophizing late at night with five different Christian game designers from three different countries. And you certainly can't find anything else like it for the price.
